Feel free to bring multimedia ephemera for the creation of physical and hybrid works. This workshop is a pro-queer and trans space. \n  \nBIO: \nL Scully is a trans writer and double Capricorn currently based in the ether. Their debut full-length book\, Fuck Me: A Memoir\, is available from Gnashing Teeth \nPublishing. L’s chapbooks\, Like Us and I00 I Love Yous\, are available from ELJ Editions and Ethel\, respectively. They have recently completed their first bicoastal book tour\, and have work appearing internationally in the UK’s WORMS Mag\, the Dutch Simulacrum Magazine\, and Finnish publication Almanac Press’s Journal of Trans Poetics. SUMMARY:Binging the Syntax: A Workshop for Greedy\, Horny Sentences (10/8/2023 - Stella Corso)
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we will look at examples of energetic\, engorged\, fervent\, and audacious syntax\, consulting some literary theories of the sentence along the way. We will examine these sentences for their various multiplicities and anticipations\, considering how many temporalities\, attitudes\, and points of view one might dare to contain. Please bring a short piece of in-progress writing (of any genre) so that you may experiment with pushing the boundaries of your own slutty syntax.\n\nBio: Stella Corso is the author of Green Knife (Rescue Press\, 2023) and TANTRUM (Rescue Press\, 2017) along with the chapbooks Taboo Vivant (b l u s h\, 2022) and Wind & the Augur (Sixth Finch\, 2021). She is a graduate of the MFA program at UMass-Amherst and a founding member of the Connecticut River Valley Poets’ Theater (CRVPT). Currently\, she is a doctoral candidate in English & Literary Arts at the University of Denver where she acts as the Managing Editor for Denver Quarterly. She also works as a farmhand on Lost Greens Farm in Colorado and is busy writing her first novel.

Learn and experiment with drawing tools and techniques. Look and draw\, and look and talk about it\, every other week\, so there is time to see and draw outside of class.\n\n\n\nJulia Shirar is a painter and educator working across disciplines\, from observation. Her work has been shown internationally in exhibitions at The Tate Modern in London\, UK\, The National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago\, IL\, Gray Area Foundation for Art in San Francisco\, CA\, Rowan Morrison Gallery in Oakland\, CA\, and La Mama Galleria in New York City\, among many others.  She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at City University of New York and Adjunct Faculty at New York University\, living and working in Shelburne Falls\, MA.

Join an experienced children’s book editor as we explore the current children’s book landscape and unpack the writing process. Depending on the direction of the class\, we can also touch on the specifics of writing for different age categories. Attendees should come away from the class with tangible next steps to jumpstart their children’s book writing journey. Bring a notebook and pen and let’s create some stories! \nBio: Celia Lee is an executive editor at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers\, where she works with creators on books for readers of all ages. Authors and illustrators she’s partnered with include Alex Willan\, Aisha Saeed\, Whitney Gardner\, Tami Charles\, Ashley Woodfolk\, Kyle Lukoff\, and Beth Ferry. She previously worked at Scholastic\, where\, in addition to editing\, she helped start their employee diversity committee as well as coordinated their partnership with We Need Diverse Books ™. Celia served for two years as a member of the Children’s Book Council (CBC) Diversity Committee and is a mentor for POC in Publishing. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa at Virginia Tech\, with a concentration on English Literature and Art History\, and earned a MS in Publishing from NYU.

SUMMARY:Needle Felting Workshop with Anna Sunschauer (10/22 1:00-3:00)
DESCRIPTION:Come learn the art of needle felting! Fiber artist Anna Sunschauer will teach you how to sculpt fluffy wool fiber into 3D objects using felting needles. In this workshop\, you will learn how to make a sweet little little hen ornament! No prior felting experience is necessary\, but it is recommended that all participants have solid fine motor skills to avoid injury with the sharp needles. \nThis workshop is open to teens and adults ages 12 & up and is limited to 8 participants. All necessary tools and materials will be provided. \nAbout the instructor: Anna Sunschauer (pronouns: they/them) is a local fiber artist who sculpts cute\, colorful creatures from wool using felting needles. They started running felting workshops around the Pioneer Valley in the beginning of 2023\, and have been featured in a variety of local craft fairs and art shows across Western MA over the last three years.
