Over five sessions\, students will start from fitting and sizing a vest pattern then move to piecing and quilting and finishing. This class will lean on improvised piecing techniques but can accommodate more traditional quilting if the students prefer it.

DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Painting for Beginners\n\nCost: $300. Students can bring their own supplies (see supply list)\, or rent supplies for use during class by paying an additional $25 to the teacher at the beginning of the first class (cash\, Venmo\, check accepted).\n\nClass description: This class teaches you the traditional methods of handling transparent watercolor in representational painting. You will learn how to control watercolor through washes and glazes\, creating soft edges\, using wet-in-wet techniques and using dry-brush. You will also learn how to work with the time constraints of the medium through a simplification of value shapes: a key to success in watercolor.\n\nGiselle Harrington is a classically trained\, award-winning watercolor painter. She holds a MFA from the School of Visual Arts where she studied illustration. Additionally\, she studied painting and drawing at the Art Students League of New York. Her work is permanently housed at Simpatico Gallery in Charleston\, SC\, and she regularly shows her work in galleries and arts centers along the East Coast. She has 8 years of watercolor workshop experience.

SUMMARY:Writing on Writing: A Metafiction Working Group with Lena Rubin - Session 1 (June 17th & 24th\, 6:00-9:00pm\, $150)
DESCRIPTION:In this experimental working group\, we will study and play with the technique of metafiction —tentatively defined here as “writing on writing.” As we engage with metafictional texts such as Anna Moschovakis’ Eleanor\, or The Rejection of the Progress of Love\, Renee Gladman’s My Lesbian Novel\, and Zia Anger’s My First Film\, we will embark on a delirious and cerebral metatextual journey that transcends the boundaries between fiction and autobiography\, author and protagonist. Participants will come away with an increased understanding of metafiction as radical technique\, as well as inspiration to apply it to their own art-making in the service of more capaciousness\, experimentation\, and play. \nA note on scheduling: The group will meet during two separate sessions this summer. Each session will consist of two three-hour meetings. Different material will be covered during each session (though themes and approach will remain continuous)\, so you are welcome to join us for either or both sessions. \n\nLena Rubin is a writer\, artist\, and teacher based in Florence\, MA. Lena’s work has been supported by the Outer Cape Artists in Residence Consortium\, recognized with a nomination to the Best New Poets anthology in 2024\, and published in Little Mirror\, Second Factory\, Afternoon Visitor\, and elsewhere. Lena will complete an MFA in Prose Writing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as of May 2026. More at lenarubin.tumblr.com.
