CAConrad has created writing rituals using the night sky to design homemade star constellations\, another ritual to dream with crows\, and many others\, from talking with trees and ghosts\, translating Shakespeare’s sonnets with crystals\, and coping with the destroyed wilderness of our planet.\nFormer US-Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith wrote in The New York Times\, “CAConrad’s poems invite the reader to become an agent in a joint act of recovery\, to step outside of passivity and propriety and to become susceptible to the illogical and the mysterious.” \nBIO: CAConrad has worked with the ancient technologies of poetry and ritual since 1975. They are the author of 9 books\, including AMANDA PARADISE: Resurrect Extinct Vibration (Wave Books\, 2021)\, which won the 2022 PEN Josephine Miles Award. They received a 2022 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize\, a Creative Capital grant\, a Pew Fellowship\, and a Lambda Award. They exhibit poems as art objects with recent solo shows in Spain and Portugal\, and their play The Obituary Show was made into a film in 2022 by Augusto Cascales. This workshop will provide you with tools for finding them through etymology and sound. \nBio: Michael Mercurio lives and writes in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. His poems have appeared in Palette Poetry\, Sierra (the magazine of the Sierra Club)\, Lily Poetry Review\, Thrush Poetry Journal\, Bear Review\, Sugar House Review\, The Inflectionist Review\, Rust + Moth\, Hare’s Paw Literary Journal\, and elsewhere. \nMichael curates What The Universe Is: A Reading Series\, which happens monthly on Zoom. He is the Director of Community Engagement for the Faraday Publishing Company\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering discourse of enduring value rooted in the work and experiences of the global majority\, and he also serves as a member of the steering committee for the Tell It Slant Poetry Festival\, held each September at Emily Dickinson’s house. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to capture the beauty of natural plant material on paper.\n\n \nEco-printing(Botanical Contact Printing) refers to the act of using plant materials to directly apply color and printed marks to textiles and paper. No additional paint or colourant is used\, just an alchemical process using the elements\, fire and water which  express the natural colour pigments of the plants. It  is a simple and surprisingly beautiful art form. Eco printing  is a contemporary application of the tradition of natural dyeing. \n \n During this workshop; participants will each create beautiful prints on watercolor paper. We’ll work with collected leaves and flowers and learn the simple tin can bundling process. Each participant will have the opportunity to make a print which transfers the natural colours and shapes of the plant onto paper.

In addition\, we will use writing exercises and published short stories as launching points for generating new material and discussing all aspects of fictional craft. Writers in this class can expect in-class writing\, assigned readings\, discussion\, and feedback from your peers and instructor. While there will be written feedback\, we will be focusing our critique energies on a robust in-class discussion. She is a candidate in the Bennington MFA program for fiction\, and has a Masters degree in Spanish Literature from Middlebury College. Her work is published with Monkeybicycle and she is the cofounder and editor of Looky Here Magazine.\n\nKel Warren is a writer from New England. Her short stories have appeared in Tilted House Review\, Roi Fainéant\, and elsewhere. Her writing has received support from the International Literary Seminar and the Juniper Writing Institute. Kel is a Frances Perkins Scholar at Mount Holyoke College\, prose editor of The Mount Holyoke Review\, and founder of SARDINES Press.

DESCRIPTION:Gel Printing for Collage  \nJuly 8th \nCreate all the pieces to make a unique mixed media\, hinged book.  In the first class create easy textured and layered painted papers with a gel plate.  Experiment with mark making using familiar and unusual tools.  Let the tools and tips guide you to create something uniquely your own. \n  \nYou’ll learn how to: \nUse and care for a Gel plate.   \nCreate fun marks and layered patterns \nPull monotype (one of a kind) painted papers \n  \nThen join the second class on Aug 19 to assemble the painted papers\, marks and recycled paper into easy\, serendipitous collages that we’ll use to create hinged mini books.. \n  \n$35 per class includes use of all materials \n  \nClass size limit 8 \n  \nAttending both classes is recommended but not required.  I’ll supply painted papers etc for the August class if needed.
