Playwriting/Performance Workshop: Playing Utopia with Jeremy Geragotelis (six weeks, 7/26-8/30, 6-8pm, $150)

Playing Utopia: Future Livenesses and Political Possibility
Time-based art is particularly well suited to teach its audience that other ways to live, to survive, to revolt are possible. It’s hard to deny a future when it’s right there in front of you. We will spend this workshop writing new pieces of theater and performance that imagine a more livable life for more people. How can a play or performance be a how-to guide in not just imagining but enacting(!) utopia?
We’ll read excerpts from playwrights, poets, and theorists: B. Brecht, J. S. Drury, M. Blitzstein, S. Treadwell, C. Churchill, T. Hearne, Sophocles, A. Washburn, F. Jameson, J. E. Muñoz.
This six-week workshop is for anyone looking to experiment in playwriting and performance-writing—no previous experience in these forms is necessary. Participants will have time to both write and share their work. The class will end with some form of culminating performance!
